The Norwood Police Department is planning a memorial service and event to honor fallen Norwood Police Officer Sergeant Anthony Overberg on the 75th anniversary of his death. The service will be held on Saturday, July 8 at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Cemetery in St. Bernard, where Sergeant Overberg was laid to rest. Immediately following the service, attendees are invited to head back to the Norwood Police Department for a meet and greet and gathering with Sergeant Overberg’s daughter, Kathy.
Throughout the month of July from this point on, Norwood Police Officers will be wearing commemorative badges in Sergeant Overberg’s honor.
Sergeant Anthony Overberg was a Norwood Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty. He was a graduate of St. Elizabeth in Norwood and attended St. Elizabeth Church where he was baptized and married. He joined the Norwood PD in July of 1936 and was promoted to rank of Sergeant on Jan. 16, 1941. He was also a member of Norwood Aerie of Eagles.
